UK Internet Report is an independent Internet measurement project discovering real network paths from distributed vantage points around the world.
What is UK Internet Report?
This project builds a growing picture of Internet topology using real traceroute measurements. Rather than relying on a single location, a number of lightweight collectors observe routes from different networks and geographic vantage points. The results are combined into a graph of routers, links, autonomous systems and discovered destinations.
Real measurements
The topology is created from actual network paths. Each measurement records the visible routers between a collector and its destination, together with routing and ASN information where available.
Low-impact collection
Collectors operate sequentially at a deliberately low rate. The aim is topology research and visualisation rather than high-speed scanning.
Distributed vantage points
Routes differ dramatically depending on where they are observed from. Running collectors on different networks reveals transit providers, peering relationships and alternative Internet paths.
Generated artwork
The underlying graph is periodically rendered into large static images. As the dataset grows, those snapshots provide a visual record of the project's discovery of the Internet.
